The IMA® test is the first commercially available biomarker for the assessment of myocardial ischemia. Ischemia Modified Albumin (“IMA”) levels rise quickly with the onset of ischemia, and remain elevated for several hours after cessation. Used in conjunction with the ECG and Troponin, the IMA® test helps to rule out acute coronary syndrome ("ACS") earlier than any other method available.
IMA is detected by the ACB® (Albumin Cobalt Binding) test, a clinical chemistry assay that can be run on a number of laboratory instruments available from several different manufacturers. The ACB® test detects IMA by measuring the metal binding capacity of albumin in human serum. Normal albumin binds cobalt added to a patient sample, while IMA does not.
Since
4 out of 5 patients with chest pain do not have ACS, the IMA® test gives medical professionals the objective data – and confidence - needed for quick diagnosis that can lead to early discharge and cost savings.
